On 14^th of April 2026 “BMF Port Burgas” AD received the Permit for use of the site: “New internal port railway connectivity within the territory of port terminal Burgas West”. With its implementation, a key stage in the modernization of the railway infrastructure in the port has been completed.

Six railway tracks had been constructed – two operational and four buffer tracks, with total length of 3 680 meters and six new railway switches had been installed alongside with pavement, drainage system, a water supply network and fire hydrants. The new infrastructure will serve trains transporting containers and other types of cargo and will contribute to increasing the capacity and efficiency of port operations.

The facility is the most recently implemented under the project From East 2 West Connections (Project number: 101175578 and Project acronym: 23-BG-TC-FE2WC), co-funded by the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) – Transport, priority “Projects on the Core Network” – Cohesion envelope. The project aims to improve railway accessibility to the port of Burgas through the construction of new railway infrastructure at terminals Burgas West and Burgas East-2, to reduce the harmful hydrocarbon emissions by promoting rail transport, as well as to enhance the modal shift in the port by optimizing the efficiency of the handling and shunting operations. As a result of the excellent organization and communication among all participants in the process, the project will be completed by the end of May 2026 – one year ahead of schedule.

Within the framework of the project, two additional facilities were put into operation in July and December 2025:

„New track – railway part in the territory of port terminal Burgas West”, with a length of 456 meters and 4 railway switches, with the aim of ensuring additional capacity to accommodate the increasing rail traffic to and from terminal Burgas East-2

„New receiving and dispatch tracks located in the rear of berths № 16, № 17 and № 18 on the territory of port terminal Burgas East-2” – two new tracks, 614 m and 412 m long, 2 railway switches and a scissors crossover ensuring increased capacity and more efficient handling of the cargo flows.

Both sites are equipped with the necessary drainage and fire protection systems in accordance with the highest applicable norms and standards.

As part of the project, regular measurements of noise levels and fine particulate matter were carried out before, during and after the construction. The results indicated values within the permissible standards, thereby ensuring minimal environmental impact..
