New Deep-Water Berth No. 28 Officially Opened at BMF Port Burgas

REBIRTH28 is the largest port infrastructure project in Bulgaria in the last 20 years.

A formal ceremony in Burgas marked the completion of the REBIRTH28 project, co-funded under the Connecting Europe Facility – Transport sector. The beneficiary is BMF Port Burgas AD, concessionaire of Burgas West and Burgas East-2 Terminals.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov stated: “This project transforms not only the cityscape of Burgas but also the competitiveness of our entire maritime economy.”

The newly built Berth No. 28 is 260 meters long and 15.5 meters deep, making it the deepest berth in Bulgaria. It accommodates vessels up to 290 meters in length, 80,000 DWT and 4,500 TEU.

With a total investment of nearly EUR 85 million, including an EU grant of almost EUR 40 million, the project strengthens Burgas’s role as a strategic logistics hub between Europe and Asia.

Berth 28 is part of the North Sea – Baltic – Black Sea – Aegean Sea transport corridor and promotes low-emission multimodal transport, supported by modernised rail infrastructure on site.

The inauguration brought together representatives of the Bulgarian government, the European Commission, international investors, local authorities and partners. A special video address was delivered by Magda Kopczynska, Director-General of DG MOVE at the European Commission.
